Course Information
Description This laboratory-based course accompanies GEOL 1303, Physical Geology. Laboratory activities will cover methods used to collect and analyze earth science data.
Prerequisites None
Learning Outcomes Classify rocks and minerals based on chemical composition, physical properties, and origin.
Apply knowledge of topographic maps to quantify geometrical aspects of topography.
Identify landforms on maps, diagrams, and/or photographs and explain the processes that created them.
Differentiate the types of plate boundaries and their associated features on maps and profiles and explain the
processes that occur at each type of boundary.
Identify basic structural features on maps, block diagrams and cross sections and infer how they were
created.
Demonstrate the collection, analysis, and reporting of data
Core Objectives * Communication skills: Students will demonstrate effective written, oral and visual communication.

Final Grade
There will be 5 labs, 50 points each, and 5 quizzes, 50 points each. Total accumulated score is divided by 500.
Course Policies
Instructor Policies Grading Policy: Grading will be done over the 7 days after due date. Labs will have some questions with only one correct answer, while others will require explanation. All explanations must be unique to each student.

Late Policy: Work will be accepted within 5 days or the end of the semester. Work posted after 5 days must be approved by instructor.

Procedure for Review of Quiz Grades: If the student has an issue about his/her grade, the instructor must be contacted no later than three (3) days after receiving the grade.

Technology Requirements
You should have a computer with Windows 8 or more recent.
You should have MS Office, specifically Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
If you do not have Office already, you can down load a free version called OpenOffice available at https://www.openoffice.org/download/ (If you use this, you should save your documents as .docx files)
You should have a printer with scanner OR phone with camera for the purpose of making a digital image of some lab work
Attendance Policy Class is asynchronous. As long as you meet assignment/quiz due dates, you will be fine.
Academic Honesty Academic honesty is expected from all students, and dishonesty in any form will not be tolerated. Please consult the LSC-PA policies (Section IX, subsection A, in the Faculty Handbook) for consequences of academic dishonesty.
